A tried-to-be-blood-donor to a blood receiver

Hi readers, for those who actually follows my Twitter (I don't let just anyone to follow, that's why it's private), I was actually admitted into hospital. It's a very sudden choice and I was shocked by it too. No, I wasn't involved in any accident, I was perfectly fine then. Now you must be wondering why am I admitted when I'm "perfectly" fine. Here goes the long ass granny story.

No, I'm not going to talk about my pathetic experience but read on to find out.

Everyone I knew had been telling me, or warned me to go and see a doctor because of my always-paled look. I've even gotten myself a nickname of "Miss Pale" by my wonderful 1413 batch mate.

For those who knows me, they know very much how much I wanted to donate blood. I had always been waiting for the moment when I turned 16 so that I can donate. Even though I still need parents' consent to donate blood, however I do not mind going through the extra step. There was this once, I obtained a hard copy of the consent form and had my father signed. Few days later, I accompanied my batch mate to donate blood, I too was there to donate blood. Sadly, I got rejected because I was running a fever just 3 days ago. Suay I know.

Second attempt, it was a blood donation drive in MI. I was all so happy for the moment where I can finally donate my blood. God wasn't on my side. I was having my period but still, I try my luck. Okay, I got passed the form filling, got passed the second round, had some problem with third round because the doc said that I look PALE. Still, she let me go to the forth round, which is the checking of hemoglobin level. And I KNEW IT, I failed that round. The normal human's level is 12 (men) and 10 (women). Wanna guess mine? Mine was freaking

7.1g/dm

The nurse referred me back to the doc and the doc said that that is ABNORMALLY low. She kindly gave me 3 boxes of iron tablet and advice me to go to a polyclinic to get the doc to write a letter and refer me to hospital. I did not consume the tablets at all because one of my senior said that it will cause constipation. I did not see a doc immediately because me being lazy and I had no time, practically NO TIME because my lessons end so freaking late. It was only recently then I decided to see a doc.

I had my blood drew out for a lab test. Seriously, it was freaking painful because my veins are very very very fine and they had to poke me MULTIPLE times to drew my blood. I waited for a week for the results and finally a week past. I went for my appointment and the moment I entered the room, the doc looked at me and said,

"Your hemoglobin level is seriously very low. I might need you to do a blood transfusion RIGHT NOW."

However she called my father first and my father told her to offer me oral medications. So she wrote a prescription for me and told me to get my medication from the pharmacy. While waiting at the pharmacy, I was starring blankly at the TV screen waiting to get my med. Then, the drama happened. DENG DENG DENG DENG. The nurse told me that the doc instruct me to go back and see her. So I went in, and guess what,

She wants me to do another blood test. I will have my poor hand poked again. TT

But I did it, and waited for another 20 mins for the test's result. This time, my hemoglobin level was,

A freaking 6.8g/dm

Uhh Uhh, not a good thing at all. The doc wants me to immediately go to the hospital and have a blood transfusion. IT SHOCKED THE HELL OUT OF MY LIFE. I was sent to KTPH by ambulance because my mother was freaking late. Awkward experience in there hehehe because I always wanted to become a paramedic. At first when the medic first arrived, they were expecting some drama mama casualty like

but I was there, standing, perfectly fine, with a mask over like

Yeah...

Skip skip skip skip. Hospital is seriously boring, unless your phone isn't dead. My doc was a cute guy hehe but a rough one because he was grabbing on to my hand, and another hand attempting to insert the needle. My face was like

It's unbearable okay, I know this can't be compared to child birth but hey, try having the flesh of your hand being poked multiple times without painkiller. Plus you can feel the needles shifting here and there.

Skip skip skip skip. Finally, my bag of blood has arrived. I got to know my blood type from the transfusion haha, it's O+ lol. Seeing that bag of blood, I felt thankful to the donor, and most importantly, I feel proud of being a Red Cross volunteer. SRC is the official blood recruiter and they recruit blood donors. You may say that I should feel embarrassed because I am suppose to give blood, but I end up receiving them. It seriously feels awesomely weird in all ways. Haha, this reminds me of a convo I just had earlier on with my batch mate (couldn't rmb it word by word haha)

---
This friend of mine donated blood on the day I received blood

Him: OMG we have the same blood type
Me: Yeah haha
Him: OMG YL you should feel honoured because my blood is flowing in you.
Me: -rolled eye-
Him: It's like I'm in your body, I'm in you.
Me: -awkward stare- That sounds wrong in every level
Him: -silence- OMG I can't believe I just said that! OMG YL you're so dirty!

I was discharged after a day stay in the A&E ward. I was hoping that they can let me stay for another day hahaha. After a supplement of a bag of blood, my hemoglobin level rose to 8.2g/dm. Mind you that's still low okay ahaha. My Alpha girls are seriously so adorable, they actually wanted to pay me a visit at the hospital but I was given an early discharge. Not forgetting to mention, all the while I was in my MI uniform, they didn't give me the attire to change at all haha.

Earlier on, I met up with Daph and she was feeding me all the fattening food which she claimed that it will raise my iron level. XD Oh God, I think that if this were to continue, sooner or later I will hit the 60kg milestone. OAO She shared with me a story of a guy who gotten a blood transfusion at his most critical moment. Without those bags of blood, he could have died. And ironically, with those bags of blood, he actually saved 2 millions lives. He has the extremely rare kind of blood and his blood actually saved babies that has Rhesus disease, a form of severe anaemia. He is none other than the man with the Golden arm, James Harrison.

As for me, without that bag of blood from the kind donor, instead of having just anaemia, it could have led to other life threatening conditions like heart problems (that's what the doc told me). Blood is crucial for everyone. Healthy beings, why not do your part and donate blood? The bag of blood you donated can actually save up to 3 lives

I will definitely repay my "debt" by donating blood (if I can LOL).

Give blood, Give life.

Irony eh? Tried to donate blood but end up receiving blood. XD
